Date: 28 November - 6 December Venue: Vilnius Promoter: RUHR 2010 and Vilnius Goethe Institute www.goethe.de/vilnius
Duisburg of Ruhr Area in Germany has united its efforts with two other cities – Mulheime and Oberhauzen – to realise the idea of artistic light shows and water. The project was launched in 2008 in Mulheime-on-Ruhr. Vilnius as well as Duisburg is situated on the confluence of two rivers – the Neris and the Vilnelë. It is believed that the name of Vilnius City has originated from the name of the river, just Ruhr’s name originating from the Ruhr river. During LUX light festival in Vilnius two cooperating European Capitals of Culture – Vilnius 2009 and RUHR 2010 (Germany) – will draw our attention to the waterways of both countries. Project participants: Andreas M. Kaufmann: light projections, movement, actualisation of available visual material and direct interface with the existing urban situations – all these represent the essential elements of his creative activity. Manuel Schröder: in creative area he concentrates on the most important topics and aspects of urban life. Combinations of complex architectonic and social interrelationships are created through his photographic and media art works. To introduce his media art works the author uses screens of the city. Studio Düsburg: the duet of artists – representatives of media art balancing on the edge of art, urban life and constructed environment and giving shape to human aspirations and utopias which are hidden there. Julen Birke: in her poetic creative work of lights “Añañuca” the artist reinterprets the phenomenon of nature – the desert of Chile, which once in a year bursts into bloom with Añañuca flowers. Using the sculptures of light the artist creates bright garden turning the gallery into red-illuminated source of light.
